About Shellharbour

Shellharbour is a vibrant regional centre, stretching from the sparkling Tasman Sea, through rolling lush pastures to the majestic Illawarra Escarpment, and nestled between Lake Illawarra to the north and Killalea State Park to the south.

Located just over an hours easy drive south of Sydney and within two and half hours drive from Canberra. Shellharbour is perfectly positioned on the South Coast of New South Wales.

Whether you're seeking a seaside escape, an adventure or a great value family holiday, you'll be delighted with Shellharbour.

Shellharbour offers five stunning beaches including 'The Farm', a National Surfing Reserve located within Killalea State Park.  You can drop a line at any of our exceptional fishing spots, or try your luck at prawning during summer at Lake Illawarra.  Discover the underwater world while scuba diving or snorkelling at Bushranger's Bay, the region's only aquatic reserve at Bass Point.

Macquarie Pass National Park is the link from the Coast to the Southern Highlands and consists of steep, densely timbered ridges and rainforest gullies, topped by a rim of superb cliffs and waterfalls - just perfect for that tranquil bushwalk.

You can take to the sky for a scenic flight or even tee off at one of our golf courses.

There are a variety of musuems including the Tongarra Museum highlighting the history of Shellharbour, the Illawarra Light Railway Museum, a fully authentic operational museum right down to the ticket box and railway station to the HARS Aviation Museum where you can see Australia’s aviation history at its best including the world famous "Connie" Lockheed Super Constellation, the airline of the 1950s.

If you would prefer to indulge in some retail therapy then visit the boutique stores at Shellharbour Village or the region's leading shopping centre 'Stockland Shellharbour'

Whether you want to enjoy our extensive cycleways, take a self guided walk, a segway tour, try stand up paddle boarding on the lake or experience indoor go carting, there are a multitude of activities to keep you busy.

When the sun goes down enjoy a theatrical evening at the Roo Theatre or catch a movie at the eight screen Greater Union cinema complex. The entertainment doesn’t stop there, see a live band or show at one of many clubs, pubs or entertainment venues around our city.

Of course, throughout the year Shellharbour hosts festival and events as well as markets that celebrate our lifestyle, scenery and outstanding weather.

Shellharbour provides a holiday lifestyle, a beautiful, calming countryside, lots of high quality shopping, splendid wining and dining, great sporting facilities and a vast range of activities and events – and you get laid back that’s well and truly laid on.
