The vast expanses of Lake Illawarra are ideal for your favourite water sports. Learn to stand up paddle board on the flat calm waters or venture out into the ocean for some challenging waves. If boating is more your style then bring your own boat, there are plenty of boat ramps for easy access or hire a boat for a fun day of fishing. If fishing is your passion the Lake has plenty of spots to drop a line off the breakwalls or jetties and you can even clean and barbeque your fresh fish at one of the foreshore BBQ’s. There are plenty of picnic areas along the lake foreshore with BBQs, picnic shelters and playgrounds including children’s Ninja course for the kids to enjoy, the kids will also love to paddle in the calm waters of the Lake Illawarra at Reddall Reserve.

The Lake Illawarra Art Trail commencing at Reddall Reserve has some amazing sculptures that depict shellharbour the lake, it’s history and it’s people. While you are exploring the lake foreshore you can venture out to Windang Island, here you will see the remnants of the rails and wheels that were used to transport rock for the breakwall. The shared pathway along the foreshore is perfect for a walk or a bike ride the path extends to Oak Flats to the west or Shellharbour village to the east, the choice is yours.
