Experience sweeping coastal views and discover the deep cultural significance of Bass Point Reserve through the self-guided Cultural Walk. Along the trail, a series of interpretive signs share the rich history of First Nations presence in the Shellharbour region, offering insights into how the land was used and respected for thousands of years.
The walk highlights the Wodi Wodi People, part of the Dharawal Nation, who moved between Picton, Stanwell Tops, Marulan, and Nowra, camping at Bass Point during their seasonal travels. The signage explores their movement patterns, diet, tools, and the natural resources they relied on, providing a powerful connection to the land’s past and its continuing cultural importance.
Today, Bass Point Reserve is listed on the Register of the Australian Heritage Commission and is recognised as one of the two most significant archaeological sites on the New South Wales coast.
Please note: The reserve will be closed during total fire bans for visitor safety.

NOTICE
BASS POINT RESERVE will be CLOSED to vehicle access from 27 January until the end of March 2026 (with pedestrian access via the walking track and vehicle access to Red Sands and Maloneys Bay car parks maintained).
The ENTIRE RESERVE will be FULLY CLOSED to both vehicles and pedestrians from 11 March for approximately two weeks, weather permitting, for the final stage of works.
