Event Details

A group of Warilla High School students will be trained as Young Mentors so that they can support older Australians in our community to build confidence in the use of technology and engage safely and socially in the digital world.

What to expect? The mentoring sessions will either be one-on-one or in small groups. They are fun, informal and tailored to cover topics older people would like to learn. Participants can use their own devices, so the new skills they learn can be put into practice straight away. Additionally, the Young Mentors will have access to laptop computers that can be used if participants do not bring their own.

Participants can ask their Young Mentor to show them specific digital skills and it could be things such as using a smartphone, sending emails, video chatting with family online, getting directions from Google maps and much more….

What will it involve? Mentoring sessions are 1 hour per week on a Thursday afternoon, for 4-6 weeks.

Who can participate? Anyone over 50 who is keen to improve their digital skills and develop a deeper sense of community by connecting with younger generations.

Where? Mentoring sessions will take place at Warilla High School’s Library. Participants will arrive at the front of Warilla High School, next to the office, at 1:30 pm. The Young Mentors will greet the participants at the front of the school, assist the signing in process then guide them to our Library.
