In this session we will explore character design by understanding character personality and backstory, face and body proportions, and Shape Language theory. However, this age group allows a deeper exploration of these concepts both through writing and drawing. To craft their character’s personality and backstory, they will complete a form that will prompt them to think about their character’s key elements and essence. They will also have a chance to practice drawing different face features and body proportions, to have a better understanding of how a character’s appearance changes with age. Lastly, they will explore Shape Language by identifying the main and secondary shapes in a variety of characters, and understanding their underlying meaning. Finally, they will sketch their own character by drawing face features and body proportions suited to their character’s age, and assign it a main and secondary shape to suit their personality
