Shellharbour City Council Incubator Artist in Residency program – Daniel Breda
Daniel Breda will be the artist in residence from August – September 2023 at The Imaginarium in Shellharbour Village.
During the residency, Daniel will expand his consistently developing inquiry into landscape painting in contemporary abstraction. The program will pivot his focus to the specific landscape surrounding Shellharbour, highlighting the architectural developments of the Shellharbour Marina, and its relationship to the Bass Point Reserve and marine biology.
Daniel will develop a series of paintings, informed by this, unified with the current studies of marine life at Bass Point; specifically the dietary research of Centrostephanus Rodgersii (black sea urchin) to develop a monochromatic body of work addressing natural and mechanical forms.
The residency will see Daniel partner with Marine Scientist, field researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle, Jeremy Day. Mr Day is an evidence-based conservationist and sustainability advocate, who’s research focuses on urchin predators and the nature of the urchin barren habitats in NSW.
