Join PhD candidate Jeremy Day for an intriguing glimpse into the mysterious life of the Black Sea urchin and its predators, like lobster and snapper!
Black sea urchins are NSW natives who graze on local seaweeds and kelp.
When urchins occur in large numbers, they can completely remove kelp from an area, forming a barren. Climate change has warmed waters south of NSW and the Black Sea urchin is now forming barrens in Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand.
Come and discover Jeremy’s research and decide whether urchin predators are the solution!
Nature Talks in the Library are a partnership between Shellharbour City Libraries and Shellharbour City Council’s Environment Team.
