Pride and Prejudice is a tale of everlasting love. Our heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, is a spirited, extremely humorous, young woman from a middle-class family. Our hero, Mr Darcy, is a single, aristocratic, wealthy, supposedly aloof and arrogant, landowner. The couple have to deal with complex hierarchical social differences, what society expects of them. Elizabeth is the second eldest of five sisters. Her father’s Longbourn Estate can only be passed to a male heir. It is imperative that at least one of his children marry well to support the others after his death. Thus, Mrs Bennet’s sole mission in life is to find suitable advantageous matches for their daughters. A sway of suitors are found ranging from perfect partners to total disasters. Elizabeth is forced into close contact with Mr Darcy. She initially forms strong, sometimes inaccurate, first impressions of him and his actions; leading to an intense dislike of him. He also forms a low opinion of her family and relatives. But, as the story progresses, the pair confront and overcome their own biases, their own faults and flaws to understand each other and discover their mutual passionate feelings. In the end their love for each comes full bloom, leading to their eventual life-long marriage.
