Please select a time convenient for you. We are hosting a day session at 12:00pm-1:30pm and an evening session from 5:30pm-7:00pm. There will be three guest speakers at each session. Each talk will be approx 20 minutes with Q&A at the end:

Celebrating World Oceans Day (Allison Broad – Coastal Programs Coordinator)

• What is World Oceans Day & how did it come to be?
• How does this relate to Shellharbour, our local Coastal & Marine environments & the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals?
• What can you do to protect our local marine environment?

Allison is a PhD Candidate and has an extensive background researching coastal & marine environments here on the NSW south coast & abroad for ~15 years. Allison now supports Shellharbour City Council to implement our Coastal Management Plans for Lake Illawarra & the Open Coast

Celebrating over 40 years of Bushrangers Bay (Leslie Diver – NSW Department of Fisheries)

• There are 12 aquatic reserves in NSW.
• Bushrangers Bay Aquatic Reserve in Shellharbour City Council area is important for protecting local marine life and for people to enjoy snorkelling and diving.
• What marine habitats and animals can you see at Bushrangers Bay and how can you help protect them?

Lesley is a Senior Manager in Marine Estate Planning for the NSW Department of Primary Industries, Fisheries. Lesley has over 30 years of experience working within NSW government agencies on fisheries management, aquatic habitat protection and rehabilitation, and marine protected area management.

Climate Resilient Shellharbour (Elyse Vaughan -Team Leader Zero Emissions and Sustainability)

• Why does climate change matter and what does it mean for our region?
• How is Council responding to climate change and taking climate action?
• What can you do to take action on climate change?

After working with some of Australia’s leading corporations to provide advice on net zero transition and sustainability strategy, Elyse now leads the Zero Emissions and Sustainability initiatives at Shellharbour City Council.
